2023: Abia ADC asks voters to resist alleged change of results

Abia State President of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Don Norman Obinna has asked democracy lovers to resist the alleged move to sabotage the votes of the people of Ikwano/Umuahia with the federal constituency seat of Abia State in the Presidential and National Assembly elections yesterday. .

He commended Abia constituents for coming out en masse to show their collective support and vote for Agusha during the key legislative elections in the Ikuano and Umuahia North and South LGA respectively.

POST has collected that Labor’s House candidate for the Ikwano/Umuahia federal constituency seat, Obi-Agucha, is said to have claimed victory, defeating the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer and incumbent Abia State Assembly Speaker. The assembly, Shinidum Orji, has a large margin of votes in the national elections that are not yet concluded.

On Saturday night, allegations circulated that suspected thugs allegedly working for the state assembly speaker, Chinedum Orji, botched INEC task force and discarded BVAS machines and other voting materials to rig the electoral process.

However, Obinna, who hails from Umuahia, in a statement on Sunday expressed his dismay at the alleged collaboration between the Independent National Electoral Commission and some power-mongers to undermine the will of voters.

The party chief said, “For people who have been raped and enslaved by one family and thrown into the abyss for 24 years, this could be a call for an uprising.

“As law-abiding citizens,” he said, “the electors revolted peacefully by illegally and massively exercising their privilege.”

He further indicated that the alleged secret move in the middle of the night to manipulate the results in favor of his closest rivals was a criminal act and vowed that people would fight back.

His words: “From Ikuano to Umuahia, it was bombing. People endured inclement weather and waited for the assigned staff to count and upload the results.”

Even as they conjured up the story of the unreceived network’s delay in loading, voters picked up copies of the results sheets and distributed them online.

Excerpt from 2015 Never have the people shown such determination as on Saturday. It is a clear message to our subjugates who see Umuahia as their fiefdom.”

The head of the state’s ADC commended the people of the federal constituency to their troops for showing their utmost support.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to fulfill its role as an impartial arbiter and to resist the attempt to interrupt the will of the people.
