Senator Godswill Akpabio berated some Akwa Ibom leaders all progressives in the state for not really working for his success but rushed to demand success in Abuja.
Akpabio, deputy chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said the leaders he described as “Abuja politicians” are shouting at Tinubu in the day and Atiko at night.
He indicated that he was particularly aware of one who had publicly endorsed the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the DPP’s Senate candidate, but would rush to Oyo to claim the party presidency.
Akpabiu also noted that someone in the APC, on the verge of destabilizing the party in favor of the PDP, had filed seven court cases against his party’s candidate for governor, Akanimo Odovia.
This was stated in a press release signed by Akpabio’s press secretary, Mr. Jackson Odom, and sent to reporters in Oyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Hey said Akpabio made the revelation, over the weekend, while receiving leadership of about 250 presidential support groups in the state’s Ekot-Ekpin local government area.
The statement quoted Akpabiu as promising to personally support any other support group in the state with genuine interest in working with the APC.
The statement read: “I have heard of several other groups being formed within the party by other party leaders. I am not against them as long as they are formed to support the party and our presidential candidate. I will personally support and attend their meetings any time I am in the state.”
“I will not support a situation where some party leaders in the state are shouting asiwaju by day and the People’s Democratic Party (Atiku) by night.
“I am well acquainted with a certain person in our party, who has publicly endorsed the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP and his candidate in the Senate, but runs to Oyo to say that I am the chairman of the Rally for Tinubu. What Tinubu are you talking about?”
The former governor described the groups as the true supporters of the General People’s Congress party in the state, and said that anyone who does not embrace the groups is not a politician, stressing that no matter how he is associated with the center, he will always sympathize with the grassroots.
