2023: Corps members warned against meddling in politics

Members of the National Youth Service Corps have been warned not to get involved in local politics while they work as temporary employees of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the 2023 elections.

Giving charge during the closing ceremony of the Orientation Course for Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 held at NYSC Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai, NYC Acting Director-General Ms. Kristi Oba urged members of the body to remain neutral and non-political during the exercise.

Ohba stressed that their participation in the general elections is not compulsory, so anyone who decides to participate must do their duty diligently and in a patriotic spirit even as he encouraged them to provide themselves for training and awareness.

Her words, “This is not the first time nor will it be the last time that members of the corps will participate in general elections. I urge them to be impartial and apolitical during the exercise. They should not meddle in local politics as they leave the camp to integrate into the community to carry out their essential duties.”

Uba noted that the New York City Department is committed to making appropriate provisions for welfare and security and urged corps members to be security aware at all times and to avoid actions that could endanger their lives.

I enumerated these spirits to include: attending soirees, visiting dangerous places, and accepting journeys and gifts from strangers.
