2023 Elections: GPC still commands majority in National Assembly with 57 senators and 162 deputies
Today, the Independent National Electoral Commission released details of the results of the National Assembly elections that took place on Saturday, February 25th.
423 seats in the National Assembly have been declared winners.
However, by-elections will be held in 46 constituencies.
The head of the Independent Electoral Commission, Yaqubu Mohamud, noted that 98 out of 109 seats in the Senate have been declared. In the House of Representatives, 325 out of 360 seats are decided.
In the Senate, the All Progressives Congress, the APC, controls 57 seats. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) now has 28 people, and the Labor Party (LP) has six.
The General People’s Congress Party also controls the House of Representatives with 162 seats, the People’s Democratic Party 102 seats, while the Liberal Party controls 34 seats.
Mahmoud described the Tenth Settlement as the most diverse since 1999.
