2023: Members of the ADC and APC join the PDP in Ogun

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday joined forces with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state.

The PDP defectors were received by the party’s deputy candidate in Ogun, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade in the state’s Ipokia Local Government Area.

Akinlade received the honours, along with the President of the PDP in the Ipokia Local Government, Alimi Orisadare and the Deputy Head of State, Hon. Kayode Bamgbose at a reception held at the Party Secretariat in Ipokia.

The decampees were led to the PDP by Hon. Michael Olawalo, who is loyal to former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Oluo, who was the former president of the APC and the Allied People’s Movement (APM), became the leader of the Democratic Alliance for Change after Amosun’s interest in Beye Otigbay, the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

In his words, Olalowo described their defection from the DPP as homecoming, saying “We all started with Senator Ibekunle Amosun in the PDP since 2002.”

Olalowo revealed that he and his fellow decamps have moved from one political party to another with Amosun, saying, “Now 360 is back in the PDP.”

He pointed it out, along with the likes of Ackenlade and Hon. Hosu Adeniyi on the Ipokia ballot, “The PDP is definitely the party to beat.”

Other leaders in the group indicated that apart from their love for Akinlade, they wanted to support a party well prepared to deliver good governance, with an attractive scheme to reconfigure Ogun State and facilitate grassroots development.

They promised to go home and rally other potential Ipokia voters to field votes for the PDP in 2023.

“Our journey to the PDP can be likened to that of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ in the Bible,” Akinlade said, handing over party flags and copies of the agreement he signed with the PDP. “You all know that I am a product of the political structure of Senator Amoson. So my joining the PDP is to pave the way for all of you.”

“I cannot be a Commissioner, Special Counsellor, or SSA at the same time as the Deputy Governor, so this document is for all of our people who will join us in sending the APC away, so that we can collectively begin the process of recovery and rebuilding of our dear state.”

The party leaders at the reception included: Al-Hajj Jamouh Afusi, President Fatay Adioti, Hon. Olomide Bankul, Hon. Elia Ogunley, Hon. Taiyo Oikanmi, sir. Tawa Ojo, Hon. Kudirat Adeleye, Hon. Kuburat Adeyemi, Janio Musa, Hazrat. Oluwatosin Mautin among others.
