Cross River State Governor Ben Ayad has alleged that opposition parties in the state have finalized plans to import fighters from the country’s North Central and Niger Delta regions to wreak havoc in the state during the general elections.
He further claimed that a large cache of firearms had been discovered buried “somewhere”.
He made the allegations during raising the flag of the APC, the ruling party’s election campaign, at the Ojoja stadium in the northern part of the state.
We have reliable information that the opposition planned to import fighters from North Central and North Niger Delta into Cross River State to unleash chaos during the elections.
“We also have information that a cache of weapons has been discovered,” he said.
Ayad said the government had also exposed “an outrageous and vicious plot by the opposition and a paranoid candidate to terrorize the people of the northern Cross River district, Sen.”.
He stated that this discovery was made by the security services.
The governor said the government would unleash full law to deal with suspected criminals, who he claimed were “people disguised as politicians”.
