2023: SPD candidate threatens to sue McCaind over land possession allegations

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the 2023 general election in Oyo State, attorney Michael Lana, has threatened to sue the state’s governor, Syi Makindi, over what he describes as illegal land acquisition.

Lana, a former attorney general and state commissioner of justice, alleged that some of the land had been seized by the current administration led by Makinde.

The SDP candidate, speaking on Wednesday, explained that the PDP government led by Makinde had disenfranchised more than 5,000 villagers in the state.

Lana made the disclosures while speaking during a program organized by the Nigerian Workers Congress (NLC) Political Committee, Oyo State Chapter, titled “One on One with Oyo Workers”.

The SDP candidate, while addressing the workers, said he plans to involve the government in the setback to give the outer ring road which was originally 75 meters long and increased to 500 meters by the current administration in the state.

Lanna has insisted that he will review the land tenure acquired for the free trade area from Guru Mahara ji to the border between Oyo and Ogun states along the Lagos/Ibadan highway when he becomes governor in May 2023.

He added that it is wrong under the law to acquire land for one purpose and use it for another.

Lana said: “The setback has deprived more than 5,000 villagers of their land, and I will reverse it if I become ruler, and if I don’t win, I will still sue the government.

You can’t just take people’s land for private investment, it’s illegal and illegal.

“If I become a ruler, I will make an anti-land grabbing law that will fight for the right of our citizens for free so that they can take back their land from any land grabber, if you want anyone’s land, tell them, pay for it, and they will sell it to you.”
