2023 Surveys: We have received a BVAS – Plateau REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Plateau State, Dr. Oliver Tirso Agundo, has received the BVAS machines intended for the state.

BVAS is expected to be shared across the total number of voting units in Plateau during next year’s general election for the purpose of accrediting potential voters.

Remember that in line with the new Elections Act, 2022, which has allowed the deployment of technology in the Nigerian electoral system, the Independent Electoral Commission has approved the deployment of BVAS as the sole means of accreditation in the 2023 elections.

Agondo said: “Today’s delivery of the machines demonstrates INEC’s absolute and early readiness to hold the 2023 General Elections without hitches as planned by the Commission.

“It is expected that in the coming days, the state office will perform performance checks on each of the receiving units, to ascertain the status of their respective jobs before holding them securely for use in next year’s general election.”

According to him, “With this acknowledgment, Plateau State has joined the league of states that have so far received their share of BVAS which are generally described as game-changers in the evolution of Nigeria’s electoral system.”

Commending the Chair of the Commission and the entire INEC family for the timely provision of the BVAS, the REC commended the Nigerian Air Force for its complementary role and commitment to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

He also pledged to deploy the BVAS during the upcoming elections as stipulated, to ensure the “credibility, transparency, fairness and inclusiveness” of the 2023 exercise.

Agundu was accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Barr Ms. Caroline Okpe, Head of Operations, ICT and INEC Staff Divisions in Plateau State.

The REC is calling on all registered voters in the state who have not yet collected their PVC cards to hurry up and do the same.
