Shehu Sani, a former senator from the southern state of Kaduna, said that vote-buyers resorted to another method of buying votes ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
According to him, those whose plan is to lure voters into money are now collecting account details of potential “vote sellers”.
Sani’s comment comes amid cash availability by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) naira redesign policy.
The activist had earlier accused some conservatives of hiding old naira notes for the purpose of buying votes, saying they were caught off guard by a redesign of the CBN naira that rendered their looted money useless.
Apart from sending money to voters online, Sani stated that politicians also started sharing what he called palliatives in exchange for votes.
Vote buyers resorted to collecting voter account numbers.
“There is also participation in painkillers in exchange for voting,” Sane said on Twitter.
