6 dead and dozens injured in a deadly explosion in Istanbul, Turkey

Al Jazeera reported that at least six people were killed and 53 wounded when an explosion rocked a busy pedestrian street in central Istanbul.

According to the report, ambulances rushed to the scene on the busy Istiklal Street, which the police quickly cordoned off.

The area in the city’s Beyoglu district was crowded with shoppers, tourists and families.

In a televised press conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said initial indications were of a “terrorist” attack.

“It may be wrong to say for sure that this is terrorism, but according to the first signs, there is a smell of horror there,” Erdogan said.

The international community condemned the explosion that took place in the Istiklal district of Istanbul, which killed at least six people and injured dozens.
