On Wednesday, Kano Fire Service personnel rescued a newborn baby dumped into a pit latrine by her mentally challenged mother, identified as 25-year-old Hawa Mohamed.
Confirming the incident, Fire Service spokesman Sameenu Abdullah explained that the Kano State Fire Department received an emergency call at approximately 10:49 am on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from one of its employees, Ibrahim Omar Mohamed, who reported that it was the accident that occurred in Sabon Tete, Gdan Kankara, in Kano Municipality.
He said that the service personnel, who arrived at the scene at 10:54 am, took action and succeeded in saving the child alive, and then handed her over to her grandfather, Abu Bakr Omar Othman, from the Sabon Tete neighborhood.
Abdullah said an investigation into the incident had begun.
