In the aftermath of the allegedly failed plan to kill his wife, 42-year-old Oliwa attempted suicide at his home in Ijuka Powerline Hub in Akure South Council District of Ondo State when he jumped into a well.
The man, who was said to have been unemployed for a while, was reported last week to have tried to kill his wife when he cut her deeply in the neck while she was fast asleep.
According to sources in the area, the father of four children became violent when he was stopped by his sons and neighbors, who noticed the wife’s loud screams.
And one of the sources revealed that the man and his wife had been facing problems for some time when she refused to lend him more money, because he had not repaid the amount he had borrowed before.
“When he heard that his wife and father-in-law were coming and he also heard that his father-in-law had reported his act at the police station, the man came back thinking he wanted to get a seat.
But what we suddenly noticed was that he stood on the next well and jumped into it. It took some sympathizers a few minutes to save him.
With the incident reported at the police station, state police spokeswoman SP Funmilayo Odonami said she has not yet been informed of the development.
