A group calling for Buhari to end the killing spree of herdsmen and bandits in the Enugu community

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to move quickly to stop the wave of killings in the A-Aumofo community of Enugu state by suspected herdsmen and bandits in the past year.

A group operating under the auspices of Enugu Good Governance has requested President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention in the ongoing killings of herdsmen and bandits in the Enugu community.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Saturday, the group’s coordinator, Odenaka Okechukwu, condemned the senseless attacks and said at least 150 people had been killed in a wave of attacks on Iha-Amufu and neighboring communities.

Okechukwu said the attacks toppled the entire community, forcing residents to seek refuge in internally displaced persons camps in neighboring communities. Which led to a massive humanitarian crisis.

The group urged the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba and other security leaders of the country to delve into the crisis in line with their constitutional mandate and restore normal life in the troubled society.

The group pointed out that it is in the interest of the good citizens of the “enough of the state” that the security forces quickly step up their game as the attacks have been hacked by some politicians who are politicizing the situation, even with the crises predating the current administration of Governor Ivani. Oguanye.

This came as she commended the efforts of the state government to end the conflict in the warring region even as she lamented the constitutional restrictions for the state governor to exercise the level of security powers required to end the conflict and restore peace in society.

“We commend the efforts of the Governor of Enugu State who personally visited the site to express the sympathy of the people of the Iha-Amufu community for the recent attack.”

The group then called on President Buhari in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces to exercise his powers to stop the attacks and end the bloodshed in the Iha Amofu community in Enugu state.
