Adamawa LB distances itself from endorsing the gubernatorial candidate of his APC counterpart
The Labor Party (LP) leadership in Adamawa state distanced itself from endorsing the All Progressives Council (APC) candidate for state governor, Senator Aishatou Ahmed Bennani.
The state’s Democratic Party candidate, Eng. Omar Mustafa, said in a press briefing on Sunday that he had abandoned his ambition and offered his campaign structures to Bennani.
But the state’s Liberal Party leadership on Wednesday denounced such endorsement by Omar Mustafa, saying the party had nothing to do with it.
The State Chairman of the Labor Party Sir Christopher Nicholas said: “We have no faction in the State. Those who have gone to another party are no excuse for this party.”
The party’s organizing secretary, Ezra Vandi, who also spoke at the press conference, said the party has not yet decided what to do about Omar Mustafa’s willingness to endorse GPC candidates.
The Daily Post notes that Omar Mustafa had earlier endorsed the presidential candidate of the General People’s Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, and Peter Obi had disavowed the LP, and the Liberal Party’s state organization secretary added that the party would, in due course, take a stand against him.
It remained unclear as of Wednesday afternoon what the status of Omar Mostafa was with regard to membership in the Lebanese Labor Party.
When asked by reporters on Sunday if his giving up his LP wallets card meant he was also no longer a member of the LP, he refused to give an answer.
