Former Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero is set to return to the soccer field later this month in Ecuador.
Ecuadorian club Barcelona confirmed, in an official announcement, on Sunday, that Aguero will be a guest participating in the Noche Amarilla 2023 tournament on January 28.
Noche Amarilla is an annual friendly match played by Barcelona de Guayaquil and features a football legend, with Brazilian legend Ronaldinho taking part in the match in 2016.
Agüero has not participated in a professional football match since November 2021.
The 34-year-old made his last appearance in Barcelona’s 1-1 home draw against Alaves – a game that would have been his last game before retiring.
The Manchester City legend was taken to hospital with chest pain diagnosed as an arrhythmia during Barcelona’s match with Alaves in 2021.
Agüero eventually announced his retirement from football on doctors’ advice the following month.
However, the former Atletico Madrid forward is now set to return to action later in January in Ecuador.
“I’m looking forward to Noche Amarilla, to enjoy and spend quality time with the FC Barcelona fans
“I’ve had checks from the cardiologist, I’m in very good shape and I’ve already started training, so I’ll be able to play at Noche Amarilla,” Aguero said after FC Barcelona confirmed he would take part in the friendly match.
