Banji Alapi, Chairman of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) has been suspended by Governor Oluwarutemi Akredulu for insubordination.
Al-Olabi’s comment depended on the report of the visitation committee that was formed by the governor of the institution earlier, which revealed Al-Olabi’s refusal to accept her invitation on successive occasions.
Akeredolu announced the suspension while receiving the report of the 7-member visiting committee to the Polytechnic.
According to the governor, “the president stands hanging until I hear from him.”
We have intervened on one or two occasions and provided the money with specific instructions for the payment of salaries. At the end of the day, you can still complete the paycheck. I am sure your report will contain this.
On his part, Prof. Olabode Kolad Koreko, chairperson of the committee, praised Akredulu for his decision that the formation of the committee was important as he presented the committee’s report on Thursday at the governor’s office.
Prof. Koriko commended the Governor for releasing over N1.6 billion as a rescue step for the Polytechnic, and also praised the Governor for his dedication to repositioning the Polytechnic and returning it to its former glory.
The Chair disclosed that the committee, as part of its mandate, met and spoke with the Polytechnic and stakeholders from the host community in various Owu locations before reaching its recommendations.
