The Coordinator of the Nigerians Concerned, Digi Adyango, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, of taking fat out of Nigeria’s money.
To that end, Adyango urged the international community to ban Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari, from speaking on human rights programmes.
Adeyanju was responding to the illegal torture of a student by the security services in the case of Ms. Buhari.
Recently, the media was inundated with the arrest, detention and ‘under supervision’ of Mrs. Buhari of a student of Federal University, Dotsei, Aminu Adamu Mohamed, on November 8, 2022, due to a scathing Twitter comment he made regarding the President’s wife.
Mohammed had tweeted in the Hausa language, “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi,” meaning “Mama ate the poor’s money and is now full,” followed by an attached picture of the first lady.
As a result, the security services hand-picked the student and he was allegedly taken to Aso Rock to be treated in a degrading and inhumane manner through torture.
In response, Adyango condemned the unlawful detention and torture of the student by the security services in the case of Ms. Buhari.
He described the behavior as humiliating and unconstitutional.
A statement issued by Adeyanju reads: “Ayesha Buhari feeds our money with fat. However, while it is taken for granted that Muhammad’s post speaks only of facts due to available statistics. Based on the reports; Estimated annual budget for food and travel for Aso Rock from 2016 till Now it is: 2016 – N3.27 billion 2017 – N3.11 billion 2018 – N3.81 billion 2019 – N3.39 billion 2020 – N7.46 billion 2021 – N6.07 billion 2022 – N6.77 billion of these outflows On the budget, one can safely assume that Muhammad’s assertion is the whole truth since the First Lady has been feeding taxpayer money with fat used to balance Aso Rock’s budget expenditures.
Thus, the behavior of the first lady and the detailed security apparatus is devoid of sound judgment, unjust and unconstitutional. First, having the student arrested and tortured by the First Lady is an affront to the office of the President and does not portray the entire country in a good light to the world at large, in terms of citizens’ respect for basic freedoms protected by the country’s constitution. All over the world, torture is recognized as a serious concern that threatens human life and dignity.
Accordingly, the international community is called upon to prevent Mrs. Aisha Bukhari from attending or speaking at human rights events in showing their condemnation of the First Lady’s behavior. In this regard, all security officials involved in this dastardly act must also be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
