Nigerian track queen Oluwatubiloba Amosan has been named to the five finalists for the 2022 tournament.
The World Championships in Athletics released the name of the athletes on its official website on Monday.
Amosan made the shortlist after an impressive year that saw her set a new record of 12.12 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles at the World Championships in Athletics, Oregon 2022.
The 24-year-old was the first Nigerian and African to achieve the feat.
Amosan also successfully defended her Diamond League title and also took the Commonwealth and African crowns.
Veteran Jamaican athletes include Shelley-Ann Fraser-Price, Peruvian Kimberly Garcia and Sidney McLaughlin of the USA and Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela contending for the award.
The winner will be announced on World Athletics’ social media in early December, as part of the 2022 World Athletics Awards.
