Zamfara State Public Commentator Ahmed Bakari condemned the statements of the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba, alleging the inability of the federal government to address the insecurity in the country and blaming the state governors.

Bakari said that the governors are not supposed to have any business related to security matters because that is entirely the responsibility of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Despite this fact, he said, state governments continued to provide operational vehicles to security agencies without questioning the federal government.

He added, “The state government is not responsible in any way for the state of insecurity in the states, but only helps the federal government to face security challenges due to the safety of its indigenous people.”

“We are fully aware that there are multifaceted challenges facing Nigerians that President Buhari is supposed to solve before leaving power.”

Clement Agba blamed 36 governors for the high poverty index in the country which has reportedly shocked the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), forcing it to quickly respond, saying there was no justification in the minister’s claim.

The public commentator rebuked the minister for his remarks, pointing out that most of the problems that Nigerians face today stem from the federal government due to some lapses, as the government does not have a visual dimension to address some issues in the country.

He lamented, “Clément Agba should not have uttered such statements knowing full well that the security of citizens’ lives and property is constitutionally in the hands of the federal government, not the states.”

“I want to point out that state governments invest huge resources in security matters more than the federal government, which owns the country’s military and security apparatus.”

“The state of Zamfara, for example, was wasting huge amounts of its resources on the military and security agencies. The current Matwal government alone has provided more than 400 operational vehicles to the security services in the state.”

I’m not talking about the hundreds of working vehicles that have already been donated to the security services by the previous administrations of the state. The federal government has not done anything to help the security services but only to pay the salaries of the security personnel.”

“The Minister is indirectly telling Nigerians that bandits and terrorists are more powerful than the Federal Government and this is unacceptable in relation to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”

According to Bakari, Agba should have consulted with the Ministers of Defense, Finance and other relevant authorities before he went out to make grave mistakes in himself and the federal government since most state governments depend entirely on the monthly federal appropriations.
