The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, denied a report that it endorsed the PDP’s presidential candidate.
Speaking to the press in Abuja on Saturday, Forum member Alhaji Seydhu Baba said the former vice president could not be their consensual candidate.
According to him, the PDP candidate was not being fair to the northerners to deserve their support.
He said, although Atiku was planning to be endorsed as the North’s sole candidate, the NEF did not endorse him.
Baba said, “There was an attempt to cajole and even force NEF to adopt him (Atiku), it shows how desperate he is.
Many people believe that, although the governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir al-Rifai, was condemning the sheikhs of the north, he believed that his real target was Atiku Abubakar.
“There is no way Atiku could be a candidate for the North because he doesn’t know them and we don’t know him.
It is believed that Atiku got wind of his disapproval due to not showing up for the NEF assembly and not being able to send any representative.
“Atiku was not seen as someone closed to the North, because he was not fair with us.”
