Jimmy Lawal, a gubernatorial aspirant from the Ogun State PDP, has left the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Jimmy Lawal’s defection from the APC came after he failed to get the courts to announce him as the gubernatorial candidate of the Ogun People’s Democratic Party.
The Daily Post reports that Lawal, who was a former aide to the Kaduna state governor, Nasir Al-Rifai, joined the PDP last year and secured his gubernatorial form.
After the announcement of Adebutu’s victory in the primary election, Lawal filed various court cases against Adebutu and other PDP candidates, but failed in the appeals courts.
On Sunday, Governor Dabo Abiodun welcomed Lawal and his followers to the APC.
Reaction Afolabi Orekoya, Director of Media, Ladi Adebuto’s campaign organisation, told the DAILY POST that the group of Jimi Lawal, Ola Kukoyi, Fasiu Ajadi and others have been known as APC members for more than five months, saying “This is not new anymore.”
Orekoya asserted that “Lawal was fond of sponsoring Dapo Abiodun and his associates to hijack and destabilize the PDP in the state in order to fulfill his ambition for his second term.”
According to him, Lawal had joined the People’s Democratic Party from the APC, barely three months after the party’s ruling primaries were defeated by Adebuto.
Orekoya said Lawal rejected all peace offers to join Adebuto to give the PDP victory in the elections.
“He made dozens of frivolous motions against the PDP and Hon Adebutu, but to the glory of God, it all ended in vain. Even the court expressed concern about Jimmy Lawal’s desperation to keep the DPP out of the polls by all means.” Justice Anyang Eko of the court, Orekoya stated The Federal Supreme Court, in a December 2022 ruling, called Jimmy Lawal a spoiler.
He asserted that Lawal’s return to the APC had established that he was a mole whose goal was to destroy the PDP ab initio.

He noted that the PDP remains resolute and determined to win Saturday’s elections in Ogun, with God and the electorate on his side.
