BREAKING BREAKING: The body of former Newcastle United player, Christian Atsu, has been found in the rubble of the Turkey earthquake
The body of former Chelsea and Newcastle player Christian Atsu has been found dead in the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey.
Atsu’s agent, Nana Sechere, confirmed and revealed it on his Twitter account as Sky News reported on Saturday.
He wrote, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce to all well-wishers that Christian Atsu’s body has unfortunately been recovered this morning. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.
“I ask that while arrangements are being made, everyone respects the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The 31-year-old Ghanaian player was according to Sky News misidentified and misreported as being rushed to hospital last week following the earthquake that killed more than 45,000 people.
Atsu spent eight years signed by Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton and Newcastle.
He moved to Turkey last September and signed a one-year contract with Hatayspor from Antakya.
Murat Uzunmehmet, Atsu’s agent in Turkey, told reporters that the player was found under the rubble of his house in southern Turkey.
He said, “Atsuo’s body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone has also been found.”
His wife, Marie-Claire Rubio Atsu, is dead and their three surviving children.
