Ahead of next year’s elections, the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has moved Nigeria off the path of unity and prosperity.
Atiku, in a statement issued by his electoral organization on Sunday, noted that for Nigeria to be great, it must be united and inclusive.
He added that in order for the country to unite, it must have a leadership ready to work through the goal.
The former vice president described the upcoming general elections as a rescue mission to save the soul of the nation.
The statement reads, “The ruling party, the General People’s Congress, has taken us aside, and we are far from the path to achieving the goal of unity and prosperity.
“That is why you and I must work hard together to ensure Nigeria’s recovery.
Saving Nigeria’s soul must begin with your vote being rejected at the General People’s Congress in 2023. They have failed us woefully and they must be punished for this.
But it is not enough to vote for the General People’s Congress. We must integrate into the People’s Democratic Party – the only viable party that has the power to oust the failed ruling party.”
In a speech to his campaign volunteers, Atiku said, “When you vote for the PDP, you would be voting for a party that has a history of uniting the country, while ensuring common prosperity.”
He added, “So, please allow me to recommend you again to continue to build more support among your family, friends and colleagues to ensure that the PDP wins the next general election.
“Because when the People’s Democratic Party wins, the victory is for all of us.”
