CBN naira Policy: Designed only to target Tinubu – Kachikwu
Dombey Kachikwu, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) naira redesign policy has been designed solely to target the CPC presidential flag bearer, Sin Bola Tinubu.
Kachikwu made the claim while expressing concern about the hardships faced by Nigerians due to the CBN naira redesign.
This is what the ADC presidential flag bearer said at a press conference on Friday in Abuja.
Kachikwu said: “The naira redesign was ill-timed, poorly executed and designed solely to target the APC’s presidential candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu.
Gov. And the state of Nasir Al-Rifai Kaduna has now confirmed that.
“I warn again that desperation to stop Tinubu should not plunge Nigeria into chaos.
“It is heartbreaking to see Nigerians killed, banks burned, property destroyed, and millions suffering as they desperately try to access unavailable naira.”
He added, “Tens of millions of Nigerians work in the informal sector and earn a daily salary of between 500 and 10,000 in cash.
Most of them live in unbanked or unbanked parts of Nigeria and are now bearing the brunt of this ill-conceived policy.
“Don’t we have a conscience as leaders? How do we go to bed at night knowing that Nigerians are queuing outside banks all night just to get N5000?”
“Poor Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the failures associated with this recoloring.”
“This is evil, Nigerians should not die because politicians are fighting for the soul of our nation.”
This comes amid a worsening scarcity of new naira notes across Nigeria.
Earlier this week, angry citizens added to the pressure as protests occurred simultaneously across Nigeria.
On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to step up cooperation with various anti-corruption agencies in checking the activities of those seeking to thwart the implementation of the currency redesign policy.
