Committee of Representatives Calls on EFCC, DSS and Others for Unpaid Proceeds of $6.5 Billion from Lagos Trade Fair Complex

An ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives Economic and Financial Crimes Committee (EFCC) and the Department of Government Services (DSS) called for more than N6.5 billion in unpaid revenue owed to the federal government from the Lagos trade fair complex.

The committee investigating properties leased to the federal government has also invited the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Aulic Nigeria Ltd, the Plaza Owners Association, and others.

The decision to subpoena the entities was reached on Tuesday during an investigative hearing.

The Director of Administration and Human Resources for the Lagos International Trade Park, Francis Dagelak, claimed in his presentation that Aulic Nigeria Ltd, which held the franchise for the park between 2007 and 2017, has not yet transferred the funds to the federal government.

He explained that the concessionaire faced some challenges because DSS, which initially occupied part of the land where the complex is located, refused to move.

Mr. Djelac stated that Aulic Limited could not start operating until 2008. He added that the company failed to transfer any money to the government between 2007 and 2017.

He told the committee that the Economic and Financial Crimes Committee is invited to intervene; However, the committee was unable to recover the money.

After the disclosure, a member of the committee, Sani Bala from Kano State, made a motion to all the above-mentioned agencies to appear before the committee at a date yet to be fixed.
