Cross River PDP Reps member, Essien Ayi loses after 24 years
Longtime member of the House of Representatives, Essien Aye of the People’s Democratic Party, Democratic Progressive Party, who had been a member of the National Assembly for 24 years, was defeated by a young politician, Joseph Passy.
Passey, the current deputy speaker of the state House of Representatives and a member of the All Progressives Conference, APC, was declared the winner early Monday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s return officer.
His victory was greeted with resounding joy in the southern region of the state.
Meanwhile, the Senator of the People’s Democratic Party representing the Cross River North district in the Senate, Garigbe Agum Garigby, defeated the state’s governor, Professor Ben Ayed.
Ajum who is seeking re-election to the National Assembly won the election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Garigby polled 76,145 votes in favor of Ayad, who received 56,595 votes.
