December: Lagos government jails sellers of fake and expired products

The Lagos State Government is strictly practicing on business owners and manufacturers selling adulterated and expired products before the December rush.

The Director General of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) Afolabi Solibo advised consumers to exercise caution.

The official spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Solibo said authorities were aware that the eight months is when some people sell products that are about to expire or have already expired.

“That’s when they’ll start processing the manufacturing date and expiration date.”

Solibo said that goods found to be fraudulent will be confiscated while the perpetrators will face the law.

GM confirmed that the agency will continue to implement public enlightenment.

Solibo added that first-time offenders are usually made to pay a fine or be sent to spend time in prison.

“If you are mild for the second time, you will pay a fine and you will be sentenced to a year in prison with no option for a fine,” he explained.
