The Abia State government deplored the outright impunity shown by some traditional rulers who abandoned their basic responsibilities as custodians of the traditions and customs of the people and descended into the arena of partisan politics in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Secretary to State Government, SSG, Chris Ezem, and made available to reporters in Umuahia on Friday.
The government also noted that it had been inundated with reports of the involvement of recognized traditional rulers of the northern, central and southern districts of Abia in the Senate who had thrown caution to the wind in breach of established public order.
According to the statement, the state government has observed the activities of three traditional rulers from North Abia, two from Central Abia and two from South Abia.
The statement stated that “Hereby this last notice, all traditional rulers are warned to desist immediately from such useless action as the government will not hesitate to punish any traditional ruler who is at fault in the future.”
