Elections: The Independent Criminal Police Commission intercepts the transfer of N2m to a politician

Barely hours before the presidential election, the Bauchi State Bureau of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission detained Hassan Ahmed in possession of 2 million naira cash in old and new currencies amidst a liquidity crisis being watched in the country.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the commission spokeswoman, Ms Azuka Ojugwa, the suspect was arrested by 33rd Artillery Brigade forces in Operation Safety Conduct deployed in Alcaleri, Bauchi State and handed over to the Bauchi State Office of the Anti-Graft Agency.

Ahmed had in his possession the sum of 900,000 naira in cash in new naira notes and 1.1 million naira in old naira notes and the money was transported in a black colored Hilux with registration number JMA 85 AZ.

The money packed into the Ghana Must Go bag, consisted of six bundles of one thousand new naira banknotes of 600,000 naira; Six bundles of five hundred naira new banknotes of 300,000 naira, and two hundred bundles of old banknotes of 1.1 million naira.”

The suspect confessed that the money was transferred to Gombe State for a politician.

The committee is still continuing its investigation.
