English Premier League: The real reason why Liverpool snatched Man United’s move for Jacbo

Liverpool agreed to a deal with PSV’s Cody Jacobo, after the player was not convinced by Manchester United.

United had not even begun to formulate an official offer, with scouts unsure of the 23-year-old.

Gakpo is now on the verge of a move to rivals Liverpool for an initial fee of £37m.

The Dutchman has been closely linked with a move to Old Trafford, where manager Erik ten Hag has been a big fan.

Ten Hag is in desperate need of strikers after Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract was terminated last month.

However, BBC Sport reported that United’s scouting department had “never been convinced” of the winger’s level of development and were wary of paying PSV’s asking price.

They felt the £44m valuation – with Liverpool paying a further £7m in add-ons – was overstated.
