English Premier League: Thierry Henry reveals a player who warned him against joining Chelsea

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed that he warned striker Romelu Lukaku he would struggle when the Belgium international was set to join Chelsea in 2021.

Lukaku joined Chelsea in a £97.5m deal from Inter Milan two years ago.

However, the former Manchester United striker struggled to make a huge impact in his first season at Chelsea, scoring 15 goals in 44 appearances.

Lukaku made it clear that he was unhappy at Chelsea under former coach Thomas Tuchel and the club allowed him to return to Inter Milan on loan last summer.

“We had a discussion when he was [Romelu Lukaku] He went to Chelsea,” Henry told CBS Sports.

“I told him he would find it difficult to play at Chelsea, and that was the case because of the way he was [Thomas] Tuchel loved to play.

“With pressure, the No. 9 player and the winger must change. Rom likes to stay in place, feed him, play with him early, he will try to bully you, turn around, stay in the box, crosses, it’s a different kind of No. 9 than what Tuchel wanted.

Now, is he going to fit in with what Potter is trying to do? I think they’re struggling with that, not to mention having him on the team.

“But what does he want to do? I don’t think he wants to come back. That’s the main thing, I think he wants to stay at Inter.”
