Manchester City denied that it was close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021.
Ronaldo, in an interview with Piers Morgan, claimed that a move to rivals Manchester United was “close”.
However, the 37-year-old has returned to United for a second stint after leaving Juventus.
Ronaldo revealed that the legendary coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, prevented him from signing for City.
However, ESPN reported that City sources claim Ronaldo’s comments “do not reflect” their interest at the time, which was described as “moderate”.
Pep Guardiola finally brought in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer, having also failed to lure Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
