Enugu 2023: Gov Ugwuanyi performs well, deserves a heroic exit – DPP leader Chinedu Iya

A former Senate aspirant for North Enugu, Chief Chinedu Eya had an Enugu State gubernatorial score ifeanyi Ugwuanyi above 100 per cent for good leadership and good governance since ascending the stage as the state’s first citizen in 2015.

Iya, leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who stated that the governor deserves a heroic exit upon completion of his term in 2023, when he hands over power to a new government, condemned the barrage of criticism against the governor, especially from “young appointees”. Most of the critics are from the Enugu North Senate district.

Speaking from his residence in Enugu Ezeki, he said, “The governor has built and rehabilitated more than 800 km of roads across the state, mostly in rural areas.”

His words: “The governor has built and rehabilitated more than 800 km of roads across the state, mostly in rural areas.

“I’m not going to talk about the T-Junction flyover, along Nike Lake Road, Enugu, which consists of a 105m bridge section, 590m ramps with cumulative length and four service lanes, constructed by the Governor.

“I will also not be talking about the construction of a 5,000-seat town stadium in Nsukka, nor will I be discussing the world-class construction and approval of the Faculty of Medicine and Applied Medical Sciences in Igbeno by the Governor.

I’m not discussing all of that.

“My main interest is what he has done in the field of education, especially with his appointment of more than 6,000 primary and secondary teachers.

“You will recall that the Governor has built, renovated and equipped 897 blocks of classrooms and other school projects under the Enugu State Comprehensive Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB).

He purchased and distributed more than 22,150 lockers and 22,150 chairs for primary school children, 1,228 tables, 1,228 armchairs and 2,456 armless chairs for teachers, as well as 1,130 mark boards for teaching and 1,960 Ceiling fan, for an enabling learning environment (under ENSUBEB).

You may not understand what the above exploits and analysis mean to the average person.

He did not stop there. He also procured and distributed more than 12,480 writing desks and chairs for primary school pupils in the state and 868 tables and chairs for teachers to improve the standard of learning (ENSUBEB).

He has supplied scientific equipment to more than 135 secondary schools (under the PPSMB), and has supplied and installed more than 200 computers for secondary schools (under the PPSMB).

“It has converted 1,000 volunteer teachers into permanent staff and released all promotion arrears due to date (under the PPSMB).”

The former Senate aspirant also stated that what the governor deserves in 2023 when his term ends is a heroic exit.

“The Governor has done so much for the region and the country in general. I would expect nothing less than a heroic welcome from the people of Nsukka in 2023,”
