The federal government has ordered the Polytechnic and other allied institutions to stop awarding degrees to their graduates.
The National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, conveyed the government’s decision to the affected institutions in a circular titled TEB/PRO/E/12/Vol.11/132, dated December 1, 2022.
According to a copy of the document signed by the director of the Polytechnic’s Programs Department, Ogoh Ngbede, which was seen by our reporter on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Education has expressed displeasure with the growing number of higher education institutions in the country offering programs for which they are not accredited.
“The polytechnic and other technical institutions in the country must immediately stop accepting students into degree programmes,” the circular said.
She added that the Polytechnic and other allied institutions should avoid awarding education certificates to Nigerians.
