The Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullah Omar Ganduji, has urged the federal government to quickly launch a thorough investigation into the failure of the National Hajj Commission in the last hajj operation of 2022.
The governor said the authority had mismanaged the recent hajj, alleging that its directors showed deceit and criminal tendencies.
“The recent Hajj of 2022 was the worst I have ever witnessed during my tenure as Governor of Kano State. It has been poorly managed, there are a number of disingenuous situations, frauds and ironies, the governor noted.
He raised concerns, Friday, at the House of Africa, Government House, Kano, when he received the Hajj Operations Report 2022, Friday, from the management of the Kano Pilgrims Welfare Council, headed by the Chairman of the Board, Abdullah Saleh Pakistan, and the Executive Secretary. Board of Directors Abu Muhammad Danbatah.
After congratulating the Council of State Pilgrims for their tireless efforts in the Hajj process, it explained that “due to the incompetence and mismanagement of the National Hajj Authority, many pilgrims have suffered severely without any remorse from the National Agency.”
He added that due to the “deceptive attitudes” of the National Commission, even at the level of service provision, the National Commission for Hajj has failed miserably.
The airline we chose was not the one they gave us. I went there in person to make our complaint and they promised to stick to our choice. But, unfortunately, they gave us another, completely different airline.
He said many pilgrims were left on the ground without performing the rituals of Hajj.
“The airline they gave us was the one we gave time slots the year before, and the airline sold the slots we gave them. So this is the same airline, they gave us because of incompetence and mismanagement.
Even though we told them why we were rejected by the airline they linked us. They promised to give us our choice, but they failed to do so.”
