He gave a voice to black people, turned football into art – Neymar’s response to Pele’s death
Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar reacted Thursday evening to the death of Brazilian legend Pele.
The Daily Post reports that Pele’s family announced his death in a post via the football icon’s official Instagram account on Thursday.
Pele has been receiving regular treatment from doctors since he underwent surgery to remove a polyp from his colon in September 2021.
The 82-year-old was readmitted to hospital at the end of 2022.
In response, Neymar said, in a post on his Instagram account, that Pele gave a voice to black people and turned football into art.
He wrote: “Before Pele, 10 was just a number. I have read that phrase somewhere, at some point in my life. But this beautiful sentence is incomplete.”
“I used to say before Pele football was just a sport. Pele changed everything.
“He turned football into art, into entertainment. He gave a voice to the poor, blacks and most of them: he gave a vision for Brazil.
“Football and Brazil have raised their status thanks to the king! He is gone but his magic remains. Pele is forever!!”
