Barcelona midfielder Pedri has urged captain Sergio Busquets not to leave the Camp Nou, insisting he is an essential piece.
Busquets has been one of the greatest defensive midfielders of his generation since making his Barcelona debut in 2008.
The 34-year-old announced his retirement from the Spanish national team after La Roja was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
While he remains a key player for Barcelona under Xavi, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Busquets has been linked with a move to Inter Miami owned by David Beckham, with the MSL club wanting the Spaniard to join on a free transfer.
Speaking to Radio Catalunya, Pedri said, “Busquets is a key piece and I’m happy to play with him. Sometimes people don’t see his work but when he’s not there, we notice.
“I hope he stays longer at Barcelona.”
Busquets has made 696 appearances for Barcelona so far in his career and has won eight La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey, eight Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups and three Club World Cups.
