Legendary jockey, Frankie Dettori, mined Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent struggles when he announced his retirement from horse racing.
Ronaldo has been widely criticized in recent weeks for failing to tackle a new role that reflects his age.
Accordingly, the 37-year-old was dropped to the bench by both Manchester United and Portugal.
Ronaldo is now a free agent but was spotted training with his former club Real Madrid last week and Dettori has now made it clear he does not want his career to end in the same way.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks and decided with the firepower I have next year and the horses I have to ride, I can finish my career on a high note. Fingers crossed, I stay in one piece and we’ll give it a good boost next year,” Dettori told ITV.
“Look at Ronaldo, one day he’s playing and he’s on the bench the next. I don’t want to end up like that and end up where I have a hard time riding the big races. Right now I still have good horses to ride and I want to finish it off.” In this way.
“I want to be competitive enough to do justice to my owners and horses next year and I think I’m still in a good class. It’s been tough, but it’s the right time.”
