Newly elected Senator for Taraba South District, David Gimkota, said his victory would be forever etched on his mind.
“I feel good defeating a sitting ruler,” he said.
The senator-elect, who made the remarks on Tuesday while taking questions from reporters at the Independent National Election Commission headquarters in Jalingo, urged his party followers to close ranks in order to achieve the same result in the gubernatorial elections.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated the senator-elect by a wide margin the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who happened to be the current governor of the state.
The results of the Senate election announced on Monday saw Gimkota win the center with a total of 85,415 votes, defeating PDP Governor Ishaku who received 45,708 votes.
Considering his victory a good omen, Jimkuta is optimistic that the APC will win the gubernatorial election of Taraba State.
Not only did Governor Ishaku lose his Senate ambition to the New APC, but he also lost his electoral unit to the PT presidential candidate.
