Amidst the wave of insecurity in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari was asked to dismiss all service chiefs.
It is believed that the dismissal of the service chiefs will pave the way for a restructured and reorganized security structure.
To this end, prominent civil society organisations, a security consulting organization have warned the Chief of Defense Staff, CDS, Lucky Irabor and other chiefs of services against the use of false narratives of insecurity in Nigeria.
The Central Bureau of Statistics was responding to allegations by a little-known civil society organization, the National Alliance of Citizens Concerned for Peace and Security, that the security situation in the country had eased considerably.
The Civil Society Bureau, under the auspices of South Kaduna Peace Practitioners (SOKIPEP), and the Security Consultants Conference of Nigeria said reorienting defense and security strategies was the starting point to secure maximum citizen support.
In a joint statement signed by Reverend Dauda Fadia, National Coordinator of SOKIPEP and Professor Hassan Ibrahim Durra, National Coordinator, Security Consultants Conference of Nigeria, the groups asked why Nigerians should believe the so-called “victory” narrative that has been propelled through cash- and carry groups, when The north-east and north-west remained in the hands of the enemies of the state.
The statement reads: “By way of introduction, we hereby declare that we are distinguished members of the South Kaduna Peace Organization (SOKIPEP), the Security Consultants Conference of Nigeria, committed to a safe, peaceful and violence-free Nigeria.
“We categorically declare that the narrative put forth by our nation’s enemies, in the most patriotic sense, is not a true reflection of what is happening across the country’s six geopolitical regions.
Suffice it to say that there has been no tangible improvement in the dangerous situation with regard to the security situation in the country.
“We are baffled as to why some Nigerians are used to giving the impression that everything is fine, even when the facts on the ground suggest otherwise.”
