Hisba, the Kano State Islamic Police, seized three vehicles loaded with more than 18,000 bottles of beer in the state’s Gwarzo Local Government Area.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Hisba, Sheikh Harun Muhammad Sani bin Sina, who revealed the unveiling on Tuesday, explained while speaking with reporters that the trucks containing the beer were intercepted on Monday on the Gwarzo Road on their way to Kano.
According to him, the law establishing the Kano Hisba Council forbids the sale and consumption of any intoxicants in any part of the state.
The council has over ten truckloads of beer in its custody and will follow legal process to secure a court order for the beer to be destroyed. The agency has also intensified campaigns and advocacy visits to educate the public about the dangers of engaging in unethical activities.”
Sheikh Ibn Sina commended the Anti-Intoxicants Unit for its tireless efforts in curbing the spread of beer and other harmful drugs in the country, and affirmed that the unit will not waver in its efforts to ensure that beer consumption becomes a thing of the past.
