Katsina PDP is in court over alleged diversion of N1.05bn
The gubernatorial candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Yakubu Ladoo of Denmark and the general manager of the Atiku/Laddoo Campaign Council, Dr. Mustafa Mohamed Inoua, have been dragged into court over allegations of mismanagement and diversion of N2 billion earmarked for the presidency and the national. Assembly elections in Katsina state.
The party’s acting chief, Salisu Lawal Oli, along with some of the party’s local government chiefs, filed a unilateral application in the Katsina State High Court on Wednesday.
The appellants called for the court to force the duo to account for more than N2 billion out of the N2 billion earmarked by the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiko Abubakar during the recent presidential and National Assembly elections.
In response to the development, Katsina PDP’s legal counsel, Mustafa Chito Mahuta Esq., said the case was brought in complement to the numerous complaints received from party agents across 34 LGA and 6,652 wards in the state that they were not getting their transportation allowances and other logistics.
Oli, who also spoke to the Daily Post about the development, said alleged mismanagement and diversion of funds by the duo was responsible for the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.
Oli said, “His Excellency Mr. Atiku Abubakar has granted the Presidential/Governor Campaign Council of Katsina State N2 billion for electoral activities.
“According to our estimation, more than N900 million has been spent just on logistics such as agent payments, transportation, feeding allowances, among others.
If you divide N2 billion by 6,652 polling units across the 34 LGAs in the state, that comes to N300,000 per polling unit but instead they give 70,000 and even in some places they give N40,000 to 50,000.
So, we want them to count the money and give the balance back to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar because it didn’t work out as expected. If they did, the DPP would have won Katsina by a wider margin in the presidential election.”
