Killings: Addressing deteriorating security situation, unrest by Nigerians – Middle belt youth told Buhari

The Forum of Heads of Youth Organizations in the Middle Belt on Friday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct an immediate national dialogue to address the deteriorating security situation in the country.

The forum also wants Buhari to address the incitements and fears expressed by Nigerians.

She confirmed this in a statement issued to reporters at the end of her meeting in Makurdi, Benue state.

According to the statement, the forum insisted that this be followed by a meeting of the National Council of the State to find practical solutions to the wave of killings across the federation.

“The forum is deeply saddened by the wave of insecurity in parts of the Middle Belt region, which left thousands dead and displaced many others along with thousands of widows and orphans,” the statement said.

The Forum calls on President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to urgently convene a national dialogue to address the deteriorating security situation across the country, as well as address the unrest and concerns expressed by Nigerians.

“The Forum appreciates the Nigerians in other parts of the country for their sympathy with the people of the middle belt in their time of suffering in the face of brutal killings and other diabolical acts of terrorism.”

The Daily Post reports that one of the middle belt states, Plateau State, experienced a security crisis last year as some schools in the state were closed.

This follows the massacre of more than 30 travelers who were attacked along Rokuba Road in Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau on August 13, 2022.
