Kovacic calls the Chelsea player his football idol
Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has named Real Madrid’s Luka Modric as his football idol.
Kovacic, who was a former teammate with Modric during his time at Real Madrid, described the 37-year-old as a leader.
Speaking about his time with Real Madrid, Kovacic praised Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo for helping him on and off the field.
The Croatian star told GOAL: “I was only 21, and there were some great players, but at first, I was a little nervous.
“I learned a lot there [Real Madrid] Lots of great characters. Of course with my relationship with Luca [Modric]He was one of the leaders there and then you had Ronaldo up front. He was a leader on and off the field.
“My relationship with all the players is amazing, especially with Luca [Modric]. He was my idol when I was a kid and then when I came to Madrid we obviously had more contact and now we share this friendship. It’s amazing to have such a great player and such a great person as a friend. It has a big impact [on me]. “
