There are tweaks that the HDP presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar, New Nigeria People’s Party and Rabio Kwankwaso, may split the vote for the North in favor of the All Progressives Congress, the Progressive Party counterpart, Bola Tinubu.
The Daily Mail reports that Kwankwaso has a large following in the north with his Kano State-based group Kwankwasiyya.
Like Kwankwaso, Atiku also enjoys significant support in the North, a situation that could split the Northern vote during the February elections.
But observers say that while Kwankwaso and Atiku will split the northern vote, the region’s 14 ACP governors will ensure Tinubu wins the February election.
Speaking to the Daily Post, celebrity columnist Frederic Nwabufu said: “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the candidate with a clear advantage.
“There are 14 APC governors in the northern states who support Asiwaju, along with the popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari in the north, who is on the campaign trail with Asiwaju. No other candidate comes close to the goodwill that Asiwaju Tinubu has in the north.”
Also, most of the governors in the north are members of the APC, who will do their best to ensure Tinubu wins the February elections, said the national president, Yirima Chitima, the Arewa Youth Advisory Forum, AYCF.
Chitema: There is every possibility that this will happen next month because they are the only two northern candidates. They have their own little powers and structures; This is why this is favored by the APC presidential candidate.
Tinubu knows the North will be more useful and productive because he knows he will get the Southwest and is more likely to split the votes in the South-South.
“Based on my analysis as a common man, the votes will be in favor of the GPC candidate.
“Southeast which is Atiku’s stronghold, Peter Obi controlled that area.
“The voting will not go one way this time. Chitima is a stakeholder in the northern part of the country and will get sympathy votes. At the end of the day, the APC will have the upper hand. Most of the northern rulers will vote for their party.”
