Labor Party supporters storm the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Ebonyi over alleged fraud
More than 100 supporters of the Labor Party, LP, mainly in federal constituencies Abakaliki/Izzi and Ohaukwu/Ebonyi on Monday protested the alleged fraud, distortion of election results and the collusion of INEC officials with politicians to award numbers to candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The demonstrators who stormed the headquarters of the Independent Electoral Commission in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, demanded the annulment of the results that were said to have been awarded to APC candidates.
The demonstrators carried banners with various writings such as “Say no to fraud”, “The power of the people is greater than the power of the people”, “The Independent National Electoral Commission should not play our fate” and “Democracy is not a dictator’s sport.”
Other inscriptions include “Give Us Our Victory”, “Let Democracy Reign”, “Say No to Corruption”, “Our Votes Must Count”, and “Say No to Fraud”.
Speaking to journalists through the Labor Party candidates, for Abakaleke/Izi and Ohauko/Ebonyi constituencies at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters, the demonstrators called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians, in general, to beat the Resident Commissioner for Elections in Ebonyi State. to do the right thing.
The Labor House of Representatives candidates for the federal constituencies Abakaliki/Izzi and Ohaukwu/Ebonyi, Emmanuel Eze and Prince Chipwezi-Agbo, alleged that “bad elements in the INEC are trying to manipulate our results”.
Eze said, “Election results from the Abakaliki/Izi federal constituency have not been announced yet. They continue to distort the results.
This is 48 hours after the election. They are manufacturing numbers and we won’t agree with them. Election officials in the federal constituencies of Abakaleke/Izzi and Ohawuku/Ebonyi must tell us how much they have collected to thwart the desires of the masses.
“I am the LP candidate for the federal constituency of Abakaliki, which won by a landslide. The Independent National Electoral Commission must announce our results because the Labor Party, LP, won the elections.”
No one is happy with what is happening in Nigeria today. But I am happy that the masses are giving tremendous support to the Obidient movement everywhere,” said Prince Chipwezi Agbo, who is running for Ohauko, Ebonyi Federal Constituency.
“Those few bad elements in the INEC that are trying to thwart the desires of the masses will never succeed. I know that together we will get our mandate and win back. They (INEC) must not take the masses for granted. It is better to let the electoral revolution triumph over violence.”
