Barcelona striker Ansu Fati has explained why he refused Real Madrid to join the Blaugrana youth academy, La Masia, in the past.
Fati said that Real Madrid did not have a place of residence for young players at the time, and therefore he joined La Masia as a better option.
The Spain international joined La Masia in 2012 at the age of 10 from Sevilla’s youth team.
The 20-year-old was promoted to the Barcelona first team in 2020.
Speaking about why he chose Barcelona over Real Madrid, Fati said (via Barcelona Universal): “Before I signed for Barcelona [Barcelona]I had an experience at Real Madrid.
At that time, the club did not have a place to accommodate its young players.
“So, with my father, we decided that Barcelona was the best option, with La Masia.”
