LaLiga: Xavi breaks silence on allegations that Barcelona paid the referee 1.4 million euros
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has spoken out about the corruption allegations the La Liga club is facing over an alleged €1.4m payment to the vice-chairman of the Spanish Referees Committee.
The Nou Camp side has already issued a statement denying any wrongdoing after a new report revealed details of the investigation.
Xavi, when asked by reporters about the situation, defended his club’s dealings.
“I think it has happened in years when I was not involved with the club, but I will always defend the organisation.
“We always analyze the referees from an internal perspective. We check the way they run the game, if they are very connected or not; these are the things we have been working on for a long time, but on an internal level,” said Xavi.
