Senate Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan has congratulated Christians in Nigeria on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebrations.
The nation’s top legislator, in a Christmas message via his verified Facebook page, also instructed believers to love their neighbors as they love themselves and to seek peace in society as recommended by Jesus Christ.
In the letter, Lawan said: “I rejoice heartily with the Christians of Nigeria as they celebrate this annual feast of the birth of Jesus Christ.
“The life and teachings of Jesus Christ enjoin upon his followers through a holy life to be light and salt that will make the world brighter and better for humanity.
Jesus Christ also commanded his followers to love their neighbors as themselves and to seek peace in society.
“Abiding by these great instructions is important for Christians everywhere and for all of us in Nigeria as we seek to build a dignified and happy nation.”
He assured them that the National Assembly would continue to promote good governance in order to overcome the development challenges of the nation and put the country firmly on the path of progress, peace and unity.
According to Awan, the Ninth National Assembly has been working with the executive arm in the past three and a half years to improve service delivery by the government and all its institutions, to raise the standard of living of Nigerians.
“In the true spirit of this August occasion, let us also remember to pray for divine guidance for those who lead the affairs of our country, Nigeria,” he wrote.
