“Misinterpretation” – Peter Opie explains that Peter Odile was his classmate

Labor LP presidential candidate Peter Obi responded to reports of him saying that former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odile, was his classmate at Christ King College, CKC, in Onitsha.

Obi said his comment about Odile at an event in Port Harcourt was misinterpreted.

He reportedly made the comment to Odile at the commissioning of an overpass in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Friday.

Obi was urging residents of Rivers State to vote for him in the February presidential election when he made the comment.

However, the presidential candidate made it clear to LP that he and Odile were alumni of the school, not classmates.

In a series of tweets, Obi said he described the former governor as a great CKC footballer.

According to Obi: “My remarks when I visited Port Harcourt have been misinterpreted by some people.

“Former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odile and I are among the other outstanding Nigerians who studied at Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, and we are still alumni of the school.

“I didn’t say that former Governor Odile was my classmate, I said he was a great footballer at my school and we all cherish him and have good memories of his footballing exploits when we entered the school.

“I was at CKC from 1973 to 1978 and Dr. Peter Odile graduated before I even attended the school.”
